But did you know that Harrison Ford was not the first pick for this role? It was originally offered to Jeff Goldblum who had to turn down the role because he decided to accept a role in the movie, Annie Hall. Other actors were also considered for the role of Han Solo including Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte, Christopher Walken, Al Pacino and Perry King.

R2D2 is a famous droid in the movie. It also appeared on all installments of the film. You may know by now that this character is played by a midget. But did you know that the role was supposed to be played by a dwarf? Three dwarves tried for the role but they could not take the heat when wearing the costume. It was even fatal to one of them. Good thing that everything went fine and a midget was able to play the role without a problem.

A new design was made, which was inspired by the shape of a hamburger. The cockpit part of the spacecraft is supposed to be an olive on the side of the burger. But where did George Lucas get the inspiration to create the character of Chewbacca? It’s from his dog Indiana. While his dog was sitting on his car, the idea formed on his mind about this character that looks like a dog, which will serve as the co-pilot of a human character in the movie. You may be wondering why it was named Chewbacca when it is too far from the dog’s name Indiana. The name was derived from the Russian word собака which means dog. The dog’s name was also the inspiration for Indiana Jones, which is another hit film made by George Lucas.

Princess Leia is one of the main characters of the story. She is the birth daughter of Anakin Skywalker or Darth Vader and Queen Amidala. She then married Han Solo and had three children namely Jacen, Jaina and Anakin. The talented and beautiful Carrie Fisher played the role of Princess Leia. But did you know that another award winning actress auditioned for the role but failed? It’s Sissy Spacek! She is well known for her portrayal of Carrie White for the movie Carrie. Other actresses that were considered for the role were Diana Ross, Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep.
